It must be in response to the frigid polar vortex that froze most of the country; this Fall 2014 season, NYFW has a plethora of multicolored, plush fur coats paired with chunky knitted turtlenecks. There's a vintage-meets-sporty-sensibility trend in most of the collections. I feel like I could easily find the colorful and lush Opening Ceremony and Band of Outsider coats in a bin at a vintage thrift store, but yet they evoke that structured and modern feel that is undeniably 'New York.'

It seems like survival from the bitter cold was the main theme and inspiration in New York.
New York's response to the question, "How do we create modern, relevant, but fashionable pieces for the urban woman enduring this unprecedented polar vortex this winter?"

With a great fur and shearling coat and knee-high boots.
